If you live and work in a very busy city like Lagos, then you are probably one of the many people who usually already look forward to the weekend just before Monday even ends. The truth is, weekdays can be very hectic and waking up on a Monday morning feels like living a nightmare all over again.
That Monday morning lethargy may have dealt with you many blows in the past because you use what seems like your last strength to hit the snooze button on your alarm clock. Today, you set the alarm at 4 am but you finally struggled to shake off the morning blues around 5:30 am, ready for work, then you hit the road by 6:00 am.
It was a good thing you didn’t leave later than 6 am because the next 2 hours would have had you trapped in a massive traffic jam under that steaming, sunlit, morning weather. You arrived at the office a few minutes before or perhaps after resumption time, covered in sweat like you just finished a marathon that started in the south and ended in the north. You really feel like thanking the guy who invented Air-conditioners, the sweat dries up and it’s time to get your head in the game. Motivated or not, it is time to work. So, would you rather spend all day wining or get to work?
Even though Lagos does not respect your starched white shirts and well-laundered suit, it is your perspective that matters. You can make your week what you want and you can start on Mondays. Monday is for new beginnings and starting something new isn’t always that easy. Truthfully, how you treat your Monday sets the tone for the rest of the week and maybe the rest of your life.
So, beginning today, see Mondays as a chance to achieve some of the things you couldn’t achieve the previous week. A clean slate to set new goals, take on new responsibilities and challenge yourself to do better. See Mondays as a reminder of why you love your job and what you could do differently to add more value to your employer. Let Mondays remind you of those unpaid bills and the promise to make your family proud. Mondays should be your boost to save for that professional exam and get that promotion. Your Mondays can start and end well, just love your Mondays.
